At KING’s Hotels Munich, we regularly review how our operations affect energy use, resources, procurement and waste. Our aim is to make practical improvements wherever possible and to base our environmental measures on specific actions that can be clearly explained and verified.
Our commitment
KING’s Hotels Munich regularly reviews existing processes and operational decisions, including energy use, purchasing, materials and waste management. New projects and suppliers are considered with these factors in mind. This includes measures such as digitalisation in guest areas and offices, purchasing standards, the choice of materials used across our properties, and investments in more energy-efficient technologies.
Our measures
- Green energy: KING’s Hotels Munich purchases electricity supplied with guarantees of origin from renewable energy plants in Europe. The green electricity product is audited and certified annually by TÜV Nord.
- Energy-efficient heating and cooling: Air-source heat pump technology installed across all three hotels. The systems are designed to reduce energy consumption compared with conventional systems.
- Electric vehicle charging: Two electric-vehicle charging stations are available at KING’s Hotel First.
- Ethical purchasing: KING’s Hotels Munich serves Fairtrade coffee and organic tea across its hotels, with the current purchasing mix comprising 50% Fairtrade coffee and 50% organic tea.
- Seasonal and regional sourcing: Local and organic ingredients are used whenever practical and seasonally available. During winter, a greater proportion of produce is necessarily sourced from outside the region. The apples and apple juice served by KING’s Hotels Munich are locally sourced and Bioland-certified.
- Food waste reduction: KING’s Hotels Munich has introduced measures aimed at systematically reducing food waste across its hotel operations.
- Optional room cleaning: Guests staying for more than one night can choose to skip room cleaning by placing the GreenStay bag outside their room door. In return, they receive a voucher, which can be redeemed for drinks at the hotel bar. Fewer room-cleaning cycles help reduce the water, energy and cleaning materials used for housekeeping and the laundering of towels and bed linen.
TÜV Nord Statement (Green Electricity): Why Certificates of Origin?
Our ÖkostromPLUS offers green electricity with guarantees of origin from renewable energy plants in Europe. Energy suppliers are required to use guarantees of origin to assure customers on a green tariff that the electricity is actually generated from renewable sources. Our green electricity is also audited and certified annually by TÜV Nord.
