If you love gemstones, fossils and all things that tell a story of deep time, then make space in your diary for the Munich Mineral Show 2025 – aka the Munich Show.

This is the biggest event of its kind in Europe. It takes place from Thursday 23 October to Sunday 26 October 2025 at Messe München, with opening times of 09.00 to 18.00 each day.

Entrance is via the East Entrance at Am Messeturm 4 in the 81829 district. Thursday and Friday are reserved for registered trade visitors. Saturday and Sunday are open to everyone, which is when most leisure visitors come to browse, learn, buy and meet the experts.

In this handy guide you will find simple step-by-step travel advice, what to expect in the halls, how the ticketing works, and a few easy ways to make your weekend smooth and memorable.

What to expect on the show floor

The Munich Mineral Show 2025 is a complete world under one roof. It spans several halls with two main zones. Mineralientage München is the heart for minerals, fossils, meteorites, rough stones and accessories and it spreads through Halls A6 A5 and A4.

Gemworld Munich fills Halls B6 and B5 with jewellery, fine gemstones, pearls, amber, gemstone art and all the tools and findings that makers and collectors adore.

This year the headline special exhibition is a partnership with the Deutsches Museum titled Earth’s Treasures: The Hidden Wealth of Europe. It explores the minerals, rocks and ores that power our modern lives and it does so through the most important European sites and active mining regions. Expect museum quality pieces, clear stories, and lots of inspiration for curious minds of every age.

Alongside the displays you will find a very full programme for visitors. Here are the crowd pleasers that people talk about year after year:

  • Lecture programme with talks from mineralogists, gemmologists, palaeontologists and industry voices. The sessions run across all four days so weekend visitors can catch headline speakers without stress.
  • Meteorite expert meeting which is always lively and includes new falls, classification updates and collector insights.
  • European dinosaurs in Hall A4 where you can stand close to impressive reconstructions and original material that tells the story of ancient Europe with its island worlds and unusual evolution.
  • Fossils area which is heaven for anyone who grew up loving ammonites and dinosaur teeth.
  • Collectors showcases where private collectors present hand picked cases that are as beautiful as any museum gallery.
  • Jewellery workshop where you can sit down and make something to take home, from simple earrings to a strand of pearls, while learning the basics from patient tutors.
  • Promoting young talent where students and career changers try skills and meet schools and training providers.
  • Meet the experts – pop up advice desks for everything from alpine quartz to gemstone identification.
  • Magazines and books where you can discover specialist publishers and pick up a keepsake issue.
  • Art corner which brings together creators who are inspired by geology and deep time.
  • Sensational discovery from the Triassic period where recent finds from Bavaria get a spotlight with clear interpretation.
  • Visitor services that make buying easy including trolleys, packing and shipping, and pick and drive options for safe collection of heavy items.

A few tips to make entrance easy

Buy online if you can, then show the QR code on your phone at the turnstile.

If you are a group of ten or more, order in advance by writing to the visitor service team for the group day price and the one free ticket per ten paying people.

Tickets do not include public transport within Munich, so you will need a separate MVV ticket for the underground and S Bahn.

Getting from Munich Airport to Hauptbahnhof (Munich Central Station)

You have three simple choices. All of them are easy with luggage:

S Bahn S1 or S8

Walk from Arrivals to the suburban rail platforms that sit below the terminals. Trains run very frequently in both directions. The S1 travels a western route into the city and the S8 travels an eastern route. Both lines reach Hauptbahnhof Munich Central Station in about 35 to 40 minutes depending on the time of day. Buy a single ticket or a day ticket that covers the airport to city zones and keep it with you until you exit at the station.

Lufthansa Express Bus

Buses run about every twenty minutes from the terminals directly to Munich Central Station with a stop in the Schwabing district on the way. Travel time is about 45 minutes in normal traffic. You can buy online or at the stop, and there is space for suitcases and sports equipment.

Taxi or ride service

Taxis line up outside Arrivals. They are comfortable and reliable. The journey time into the city centre varies with traffic. If you arrive late in the evening or with a lot of samples to carry, a taxi can be worth it for door to door convenience.

Getting from Hauptbahnhof to the Munich Mineral Show

From the main station, follow the white and blue U signs to the underground. Take the U2 line in the direction of Messestadt Ost and ride it all the way to Messestadt Ost. This is the station for the East Entrance. The journey takes 20 to 25 minutes. Trains are frequent and clearly announced. When you exit the station you will see signage for the fairgrounds.

Your show ticket is not valid on the underground, so buy an MVV ticket before you board. If you are staying near the station you will likely take this U2 route each day and it quickly becomes second nature.

Coming straight from the airport to the venue

If you want to go direct on Thursday or Friday for trade meetings, or on Saturday morning to beat the crowds, there is a simple route on public transport. Take the S8 from the airport to Ostbahnhof. Change to U5 toward Innsbrucker Ring. Change again to the U2 toward Messestadt Ost and ride to the end. From there it is a short walk to the East Entrance. If you prefer a taxi, the airport to Messe fixed fare is €94 and takes around 35 minutes in light traffic.

Arriving by car and parking

Set your satnav to Am Messeturm 4 81829 Munich. Approach on the A94 motorway and take the exit marked Feldkirchen, then follow the electronic signs for Munich Show. You will be guided to the East Entrance. Visitor parking is in lots P S10, P S11 and P S12 via Gate 9 on Willy Brandt Allee. On site staff guide you the rest of the way.

As always with big shows, arriving before the doors open makes parking and security checks much faster.

On the day tips for intentional attendees

  • Start with a plan: The halls are big and there is a lot to see. Note a few must visit stands or features and pin them on your map.
  • Prioritise the special exhibitions and lectures: If you love learning, go to the special exhibition first thing when it is quiet. Then aim for one or two lecture sessions of interest so that you do not rush your shopping later.
  • Shop smart: Many dealers accept cards but some offer better prices for payment in cash. For major purchases consider the on site packing and shipping services or pick and drive collection points.
  • Bring a small torch: A simple pen light helps you see clarity and inclusions in gemstones and surface features on minerals without imposing on exhibitors.
  • Footwear and water: You will walk a lot. Comfortable shoes and a refillable bottle will make your day better.
  • Wheelchairs: If you require a wheelchair, speak to staff at the turnstiles and one will be arranged for a €50 cash deposit which will be handed back on return of the wheelchair.
  • Trolleys: Trolleys are available at the East Entrance. A €50 cash deposit applies and there is a €20 service fee for the cart trolleys.
  • Photography manners: Photography for purely private use is usually fine, but always ask the exhibitor or any people in your frame first. For journalistic or commercial use you need prior approval from the show management.
  • Exhibitor list and floorplan: Large boards are placed in the entrance area and folding plans are available at information points. If you’ve checked the online exhibitor list, bring your shortlist and stand numbers with you.

All three are within an easy stroll of Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), which makes the daily trip on the U2 to Messestadt Ost quick and stress free. You also have a good choice of places to eat and drink in the surrounding Maxvorstadt and Old Town areas once your show day ends, as well as easy access to all the best sightseeing.
